Why it Matters

Sea turtles are keystone marine animals. This means they play a vital role in maintaining a healthy ocean environment. They feed on seagrass and jellyfish, which help regulate seagrass growth and jellyfish populations. They also keep coral reef ecosystems in check. They themselves are like mini ecosystems supporting smaller organisms and carry vital nutrients for coastal vegetation, keeping shore erosion at bay.
